About
Susan is a graduate of the University of Waterloo in Applied Health Sciences, and Wilfrid Laurier University with a Master of Social Work. She has over twenty years of experience in the counselling field. She has developed a passion for women’s health in a variety of settings including the community, hospitals, and a Nurse Practitioner-led Clinic. She is passionate about supporting women in whatever stage of life they may find themselves in. She has expertise in the areas of anxiety, depression, mood disorders, stress management, maternal health, postpartum issues, medically fragile children, parenting, relationship issues, couples counselling, trauma, abuse, grief, intimate partner violence, and addictions.
Susan’s first priority is making sure the client feels at ease and allows the counselling sessions to unfold organically. The client is free to set goals for therapy, but is not obliged to do so. Susan utilizes a variety of therapeutic approaches depending on the needs of the client including, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Self Compassion Therapy. Susan is passionate about the neuroscience of emotion/ stress and bases her practice on leading edge research. She often refers clients to websites, videos, and practical tools for managing the presenting issue.
In addition, Susan practices yoga daily in order to stay flexible, grounded and well. She is the mother of five adult children; four daughters and one son. She is also the grandmother of six, which keeps her in tune with the needs of parents and current with baby and toddlerhood issues.
